Help / advice needed : building a blog / site about Black perspective on hip-hop and social issues

There's a group of posters who want to start a website/blog that would give a black perspective on hiphop and black social issues. We think it could be a quality project, and we've kicked around some great ideas, but we've been held back by the fact that none of us know the first thing about creating a website/blog that is anything more than functional and basic.

Is there anyone in this forum who'd be willing to become a part of this movement? It has potential to evolve into a much bigger thing, and you'd be in on it from the ground up. If you're not interested in that level of investment, would you at least be willing to help a group of techno-dummies set up and manage a website/blog?

Is it something part of the Coli or independent of it ? Because I already submitted a "Coli blogs" idea to the Chiefs but it was not really interesting or maybe too difficult to implement.
I mean SOHH had bloggers on their main page, maybe the Coli could have the same. Do you have a link to the thread so we could have an overview of the idea ?

But strictly about your question, there are many blogging platforms that are powerful yet easy to use like Wordpress for example (there are others, it's just the most known). They come with many free themes to customize your site and FAQs to help you tweak it a little.
If you want to build the stuff from scratch (which is not what you want if I understand right), you need to know at least PHP and MYSQL which are languages used to create websites with databases (as it will be necessary to manage a blog) and some CSS to design the stuff.

I'm sticking the thread because the idea is interesting, I hope some more knowledgeable brehs will help and give you a hand.

I just noticed this thread even though it's a month old.

Blogs sound easy and simple to do, but that shyt is legit hard work especially if you're doing it by yourself and really want to it to get mad views. You either gotta have a lot of time on your hands or a good network of people to delegate the updates/work.

I started a blog a few years ago with the same concept as the OP and actually got some sound advice from someone on the Coli. shyt was straight for a while, but I just couldn't keep up with the updates by myself an I eventually fell back a lil. I had a dope name and logo, just lacked the resources to keep it going strong.

You can get a free wordpress theme or purchase a custom wordpress theme. The only thing with having wordpress host it for free is that you'll have certain limitations as far as content goes.

Brehs, thanks for the responses. The founding group is the opposite of Internet savvy, but we're getting some initial assistance from @cook. Once the site gets its sea legs, we can start taking suggestions for how to improve it, promote it, and take more writing contributions. Right now we're just trying to get it off the ground, and then we want to draw from the talent on this board.
