help me build a cheap plex server

dont need anything fancy, just need to be able to stream a few things to a fire stick

i got one of these old dell desktops laying around

dont know if it could be upgraded and utilized at all


any ideas brehs?

What would you be streaming that isn't already available on Kodi?

What's the specs on your computer? You may have to transcode using Plex, which would make your processor and RAM your bottleneck.


If you install Kodi, you can stream straight from the computer with no extra applications needed. Just about any hardware that can access your network and share a folder can be used, from a hard drive plugged into a router to an old ass PC.

I use a refurbished Acer Aspire desktop that I got off eBay for $150 for my Plex server. Works like a charm. Something similar to this:

Just found out that unlike PS4 and Xbox One, the Plex App on 360 is free and don't require the Plex Pass.

Found my new anime watching platform.

Plex App finally free on all consoles. Thank god cause Xbox 360 doesn't natively support mkv and that transcoding was whooping the fukk out of my CPU.
