Something Japanese that's reliable, economical and good on gas and will run forever like a Toyota rav4 or Honda cr-v if a car like a accord civic or camry

My girl drives over 20K miles a year and is pushing a 10 year old Elantra POS. We are looking at a new car and I'm looking for suggestions.

Looking for high MPG, leather interior, cheap maintenance and long term reliability. Rest is pretty whatever. My guess is buying new would seem to be a huge waste of money due to mileage and depreciation.
Looking at preowned Altimas (2013), Optima, Prius and Mazda 3. Not looking to pay more than 22K

Which way would you lean?
What does she look like? Post pictures.

Subaru or Volvo.. Seriously.

You don't want to give her a 350+ hp car, but you will want her in a car that has power, handling, and braking power to get her out of sticky situations if they arise.

Subaru's are AWD with more hp than your average sedan so they're perfect for shytty weather conditions

Volvo's have a cage built around them so they're extremely safe.
