Herbie Hancock is legend. He's lauded for his "traditional" jazz numbers, the cutting edge sound on albums like Sunlight and Future Shock and even his work with newer artists like Thundercat, Terrace Martin, Robert Glasper and Domi & JD Beck. His vocoder laced 1978 album Sunlight is one of my favorites

Funny enough I got hipped to the album when Charles Hamilton and this rapper/producer named Black Spade were beefing over beat stealing.

I checked out Black Spade's music and he sampled "I Thought It Was You" and that took me down the Herbie Hancock rabbit hole

Come Running to Me was famously sampled by Dilla in Get Dis Money

Give the album a listen, 7 tracks, less than 40 minute runtime

Huge Herbie Hancock fan. Have seen him live probably 10 times and he’s always incredible. This is a great album isnt the first one off most people’s tongues either….

That's wassup! He was down here in Atlanta last spring for the Jazz Festival but I was out of town smh

He's one of the few artists I HAVE to see live (Stevie Wonder, Jamiroquai, Anderson Paak)

Where I shouldn't be
Bruh, with or without the hip-hop sampling Herbie is a Jazz God. Play Dolphin Dance weekly and know every key in I have a Dream. And though I dig them both, I'm still shocked what Miles did to his version of The Sorcerer tho.
:wow:

Been on a Herbie kick lately. He's up here in Chicago hosting International Jazz week, not sure if he's performing tho

Last yr, I discovered this version of I Thought it Was You from an album that was only released in Japan. It's twice as long (15 mins) as the original :gladbron:
