God's Plan
There isn't an MC in today's game as superbly talented, yet astonishingly infuriating, as Jay Electronica. The New Orleans born rapper had the Hip-Hop world in a tizzy when, after bubbling for years, storming through with "Exhibit C" and signing on the dotted line with Jay-Z's Roc Nation, an epic event album was thought to be a given. However, after inking the aforementioned recording contract in 2010— which was announced in grand fashion two years ago to this very day— Act II: Patents of Nobility (The Turn) is still nowhere in sight.

What makes Jay Elec's increasingly Detox-like level of record release half-stepping is that he'll disappear from the public sphere for a little while, then randomly pop up again. This in itself isn't a problem but it's just that each time he makes a public cameo, be it on Instagram or in a salacious UK tabloid story, it's a stark reminder that dude still hasn't dropped his damn album. In 2012 Jay Electronica was in the news plenty of times, unfortunately it was rarely ever for actually releasing some new product.

Here's a look at what Jay Electronica was up to in 2012. Whether this proves that Act II is merely a myth, is up to you.

Love
Im convinced Jay Elec hates us fans
:skip:

Imagine being a performer and seeing all types of shows with fans who are reacting the same way at the point of every song. Look at The Coli for instance, a place of some of the most dedicated fans of hip-hop . . now tell me it isn't easy for one of these rappers (who is an artist, as much as we may want to downplay the element of artistry in hip-hop) . . I wonder why someone wouldn't like us :troll:

:wtf: but he's talked highly of on the coli/other hip hop messageboards. by that logic he should've dropped 3 albums by now

I don't believe the angle of a single holding up the album's release

But I got a real good feeling the LP is wack/average/boring

I doubt it's wack; Questlove said Hov told him that it's his favorite album of the year. Seems more like the problem is Jay Elec. He's unmarketable on the label is struggling to figure out what to do with him. He's also completely unreliable - I'd imagine he misses deadlines, won't do interviews, etc etc. I doubt he did a 360 deal because he has done like 3 shows in all of 2012. The label doesn't seem to care and neither does he.

And to be perfectly honest, I don't give a shyt either. Back in 2008-2010 he was god to me and a lot of other fans. But there's so much dope hip hop out right now that I see no point in stressing over dude. Think about all the artists who dropped dope mixtapes around that period, and are now running shyt (to various degrees). Drake, Cole, Kendrick, KRIT, Currency, etc. Elec didn't release shyt yet had a whole lot of buzz off ONE single. He never capitalized on his success. Let's not forget this dude had Diddy and a host of big NY cats on stage with him at his sold out concerts back when Exhibit C dropped.

He's done, it's over. I'm sure he made good money with that Roc deal, but he could have made twice by simply dropping a fukking mixtape and touring nonstop.
