Eye Cue DA COLI GAWD
The new #12 is bold and black. Browns are back š
The more I look at this guy's advanced metrics, the more I come away feeling I've been scrupulously conned by some unknown entity. Before I post the stats to BACK UP what I have to say, I know many of you will brush off what I have to say as me 'hating' on this kid. Whatever. The more pressing question to me is, where is the data to back this guy being anything more than a slightly above average prospect? I keep looking but I can not find it. I mean, supporters of this guy are throwing Kawhi and George comparisons for this guy like those two didn't go outside the top 10 picks of their respective drafts.

Anyway, moving on... during Hype Wiggins freshman year @ Kansas, he was very much a disappointment on defense (I consider 'disappointment' to be giving him the benefit of the doubt). His individual Defensive Rating was flat out poor for both in conference and out of conference games. Let's take a look:
Defensive Rating (points given up per 100 possessions while on the floor)
Gordon: 88.6
Embiid:90.9
Smart: 93.3
Randle: 97.9
Parker: 99.3
Hype: 102.8
So there you go, five highly rated prospects and Hype comes in the worst... by far. All I ask is for you to be honest -- you know these numbers back up what you saw while watching Hype on TV. The nikka was just another guy most of the time. To my recollection, it felt like all of the time but I can see if you thought he made a few defensive plays here and there.
Now let's compare Paul George and Kawhi Leonard Defensive Ratings coming out of college:
Leonard - 86.3
George - 94.1
Basically Wiggins doesn't compare to Leonard and Gordon defensively. Those guys are downright elite for wing defenders and pretty much dominant overall. For comparison sake Anthony Davis was @ 82.6 and Nerlens Noel was @ 83.8.
So now that you have the numbers, what excuse will it be now? Embiid played on the same team as Hype. Smart was in the same conference playing with worse talent. And Parker posted a better defensive rating playing the 4/5 all season.
Where do we go from here?

it wasn't. The fact that Jabari's is better should let you know how misleading D-rtg can be when talking about college ball
