@Theraflu since you have Ali in your avatar. Talk shyt on "Gone With The Wind" prequel to focus on Manny's point of view" thread. I hate it too and didn't like it but I would love to hear your opinion about what Ali did wrong to Frazier.
I watched the documentary about Ali vs Frazier....Frazier was a great man
and look at what Ali did to Joe Frazier.
Smokin Joe was there for him when he was kicked out of boxing due to his stance on Vietnam, he was the one who lobbied most vocally for Ali to have his license to box reinstated. all the time Ali was at loose ends, both mentally and financially, Frazier was the one who was there offering assistance.
what did Ali do to repay him?
He mocked him, ridiculed him, and dragged his name through the mud every chance he got, even going so far to call him an "Uncle Tom". And, white folks love it.
He also allowed himself to be used as a political pawn by the nation of Islam, an organization whom his own closest family, friends and business associates warned him numerous times were just trying to use him and abuse his sporting image for their own religious ends.
As for Ali apologizing and asking for forgiveness, no he didn't.
he asked for one of fraZier's family members to pass on his apologies, and when advised to do it by himself, he shirked the responsibility.
Ali apologized and reneged his apologies over and over many times in the following years, but never in person.
Ali told The New York Times he was
sorry for what he said about Frazier before their first fight. At
first, Frazier accepted the apology, but he later retracted it:
"He didn't apologize to me -- he apologized to the paper," Frazier said
in a June issue of TV Guide. "I'm still waiting [for him] to say it to
me."
Ali's response: "If you see Frazier, you tell him he's still a gorilla."
I want you to watch ESPN's 30 for 30 "The Real Rocky". Chuck Wepner inspired the Rocky movies.. This Ali wanted him to call him a "N!gger" for the business but Chuck refused.it.
