When life imitates art:
As the rap stars are inducted, NWA’s MC Ren tells the Kiss guitarist: ‘Hip-hop is here to stay. Get used to it’

Here's a funny twist on that. KISS were a joke to Rock n Roll acts of their era.
They were seen as one big gimmick act, who couldn't play, and embraced commercialism over art by agreeing to put their logos/likeness on anything for a dollar.
Unless I'm mistaken, it was a Black guitarist from a modern group who literally campaigned and lobbied for them to be in the Rock n Roll HoF.
He was a little kid during their peak, as were a long % of their fans. They were a real life cartoon act.
He worked so hard to get them in, that he was the one who inducted them when they finally got in

So, Gene Simmons,
of all people making snobbish/gatekeeper comments about Rock music and honors is a complete joke.
