A 15-year-old Ohio high schooler was punished for quoting Gus Johnson while calling a middle school football game.
According to the Sandusky Register, the Margaretta Schools student said a player had “that getting-away-from-the-cops speed” when breaking away for a long gain. The ball carrier was Haitian.
Johnson used a similar line when calling a Chris Johnson touchdown in 2009 and later issued a defiant apology after receiving criticism.
“If there is a perception of racism in this analogy, it is not coming from me. People of all races have run from the law. However, to those who are offended, I apologize.
The student’s discipline wasn’t revealed. The whole incident came to light after the student’s parents filed a police report regarding threats the boy received after making the call. In the report, they say their son heard the call on Madden NFL 12, which featured Johnson as an announcer.
