was so bright you could see it in the day, was brighter than venus at night
a type 1a supernova
5 billion times brighter than the terrestrian sun
IIRC it was only 16 thousand light years away (within our own milky way)
compare that to the 1885 supernova in Andromeda (over 2million miles away) which by anecdotal accounts did not appear as bright

if we survive long enough one day we will see all the stars outside our solar system dissapear
no more starry nights (but for the few in the MW) :mjcry:
