I don't know if that whole Trinidad thing was planned by NY heads or if they just used it as a jumping off point. But it's extremely clear that the sleeping giant of NY hip hop has been awoken. Deejay's are playing a lot more NY acts. There's a bunch of shows catered strictly to NY artists (upcoming and older ones.)

Yall wanted it yall got it.

besides anecdotal facts, :what:, where is the proof that nyc is playing more artists from the 5 boroughs?

anectdotal?? Do you listen to Hot97? They've been making a effort to do this for weeks. On the morning show and especially during the holiday mixes.

Hot 97 has flipped something crazy. I used to tune in last year after 7 pm and all I'd hear was Future, Rick Ross, Wayne and a whole bunch of ATL rappers.
Now I tune in and its a different story. All you hear now is Grimey NY Boom Bap and RnB with minimal Southern play.
You are either Ignorant as fukk, are from out of state or trolling if you say otherwise.

Ultimately if there is a significant change to the programming of a radio station, you can look to the program director of the station. I think dude just realized, that if ratings keep falling you got to try something different.

The real tell will be:

  • How their ratings will do given this new focus
  • If ratings drop will they continue to blaze that NY hip hop.
  • Will more NY artists (old and new) start producing more quality music
