It’s music in general. It’s hard for anybody to be a star because entertainment is so fractured now. Morgan Wallen has dominated the last few years on the charts and his album has constantly been #1 on the charts for months now and I ain’t heard a single song from the album and I bet nobody on this sub has either.

For music to breed stars we need a monoculture but we have the opposite of that now so you’ll have a bunch of acts (more than ever) to have a career off music but no superstar

Idk. Pop music has seen Olivia Rodrigo, Sabrina Carpenter, Tate McRae.

Then you got this Olivia Dean chick.

Rap/hiphop is damn near an underground genre now and looks like it’s becoming what punk rock became.

Sabrina Carpenter been making music for like a decade if not longer. Olivia Rodrigo along with Carpenter were on Disney shows which helped their stardom. The other girls you named are nowhere near stardom

All the big names in rap debuted during the 2010s (Carti, Travis Scott , 21 savage , young boy , Kendrick , Tyler the creator)

This is a clear sign the genre is on its last legs
The world is just different now. You’re not going to see stars made the same way you used to, same way you’re not gonna see four year college players being picked at the top of the draft again. You gotta adjust your expectations to the times. Hip hop isn’t on its last legs at all, it’s clearly in its prime era when it comes to just popularity.
