hip hop is doing just fine in the underground market, tired of these old nikkas complaining.
This.

I'm 2 and 3 years behind on listening to projects. There's plenty of dope hip hop out there, too much to keep up with. No matter what era or sub genre is your "end all be all" there's something current that sounds like it. Listeners just lazy and/or they like being miserable.

It's dead no matter how you spin it.

If your argument is that it's thriving deep down in the depths of the underground.....thanks for proving his point......it's dead.

From my understanding, hip-hop culture was originally meant to uplift and inspire the people and to give a voice to the voiceless.

Fast forward......It's doing none of that.

In fact , rap music (the main component of hip-hop) has turned into literal mental and spiritual poison to the masses.

It uplifts and inspires no one.
How does it's popularity affect my listening pleasure? It's not like I can't just as easily cop the underground stuff. I could care less what the masses are listening to

E Double is right.

People keep saying this "the underground is still dope" sh*t, but for those of us who came up in Hip Hop's underground golden era, we all know that today's version of what that's supposed to be, is lacking too. As a whole, the music on all fronts has dropped crazily in quality. There are very few exceptions, but finding really dope MC's who are dropping high quality projects consistently, is like trying to hit the number now.

You could throw a rock out the window and hit a dope MC before. Now, you have to be a damn archeologist to find the kinda sh*t that used to be everywhere in the underground. And because the "fans" have allowed for the standard to lower so much, these dudes aren't feeling the pressure to make classic music anymore. It's all become disposable. And it'll stay that way until the people stop just accepting mediocre sh*t.

Sadly the good times of hip hop is loong gone never to return. Just the overall feeling of it. My generation 88-07( age 10-29) got to experience the best of it and luckily the music is still there. They think they love hip hop today? shyt they have no idea of the actual feeling of it during those times. We even saw them try to ban and kill it legislatively and we said hell nah. But now it's just a side hustle to other things.
