So i was thinking of all the documented history of the past 40+ years of Hip Hop culture but you haven't seen a channel yet emerge. Will there be a network & has one been tried yet? I wouldn't count Revolt as a Hip hop network, BET was a culmination of different genres & formats of Black Entertainment.

Could there be an actual channel & what original programming could you see on this channel on a daily basis?

But there are so many producers & mc's, personalities now, i would imagine your content would be insane how much you could create and possibly dig up that hasn't seen by the majority of heads.I imagine stockpiling a library of material would be costly. But i look at all the other ridiculous channels & sub formats that do okay and have been on cable for a while. Can someone explain why it isn't possible to have a channel next to Free Speech Tv network? :mindblown: I would imagine subscribers would line up around the world, it wouldn't have blockbuster numbers but it is a culture you could have successful 24-7 channel for. Man, would that Biggie & Tupac film be shown a lot. That mf is probably cheap to get a license to run that in syndication. :russ:

Broughammmmmmmm...I been thinkin' about this on the cool for a good minute.

I got ideas for shows:

- a hip-hop trivia game show
- a "Teen Summit"-type show gotta come back (IN CHICAGO)
- a late night saturday showcase (tentatively titled "Flowtime At The Apollo")
- A nightly news show that keeps it real

if a network played it smart and bought out love and hip hop from vh1 to play it on their network, wild n out, urban stand up specials and played a bunch of low budget hood movies like Shottas late at night, it would definitely be lucrative while being able to have some "real hip hop" type programming
Imagine a serious freestyle battle competition like the voice :gladbron:

Breh, think of all of the networks on television now, and all of the networks for specific things.

In 2015, and definitely as we move into the future, you can literally make a network on ANYTHING almost. There's fashion networks, food networks, gay networks, lesbian networks; hell, there's still three or four music video channels (at least). If somebody wanted to put their money into it, they could create a hip-hop network.

I would guess the reason why it hasn't happened is because the cable providers are scared of the image that comes w/ Hip Hop still. These fukkbois who have made it difficult to get things happening because people think anyone rhyming is either going to shoot you or rape your daughter. Which has killed many of a multi act tour because people think that there will be mayhem at a big arena w/ different acts.

But my god, if you had a block of programming, (you would have to do quite a bit of reruns) you could still have great shyt & people would watch. Everyone doesn't want to keep going from video to video on youtube or worldstar or wherever. I think people are waiting for this & channels that are out there have blocks but people want a channel where they can flip it on anytime & there it is whatever is playing.

For the Hip Hop trivia you could have J Zone host or
Nightly news show you could have Freddie Gibbs & Desus :hah:

To me, this sort of reminds me of the beginnings of Comedy Central, they started w/ nothing & it took a long long time before they were able to create original content. A lot of artists would see a direct increase in their sales of tours,cd's,merchandise. The benefit would be you could filter out a lot of wack shyt.

The other thing I don't think people understand that cable subscriptions are contracting for the first time. I would guess that starting a channel is going to be easier because it has hit the pinnacle. Which would explain how many channels still get access to the major players of TV broadcasting.

I don't think it would be that tough, so many bullshyt channels you could axe off the dial w/ higher ratings.

To your first point, I think that's actually a plus. Everybody in this world is trying to make money off hip-hop now.
If they knew there was an audience out there, they would just have to have a platform to air chit. They wouldn't necessarily
have to worry about venues.

Really, all you need to have a successful channel is 3 or 4 good shows and you could show movies/docs all day.
LORD KNOWS there are plenty of those in hip-hop. You make a good point about this yourself with Comedy Central.
I remember all they used to have were half-hour specials, comedy movies, and Mystery Science Theather 3000...
...but it was the chit! More original programming came later, but it was after they already had viewers because it was
the only channel doing comedy 24/7.

To the point I was making earlier, there are already programs that you could say are (or could be) "hip-hop" that were successful -
you could do a whole channel of them, really.
