I watched that Tyler Perry doc and the first thing I thought of is that all those years and his mom never told him that he was the product of her basically stepping out on her husband was beyond foul. It also explained (which I don't condone) the way he always whupped Tyler as a kid. The nikka wasn't his kid, but he stayed with his wife (Tyler's mom). Even on her deathbed he never knew and only found out years after she died. You could see how torn dude was over the fact that she kept that from him all his life.

But yeah man...

What’s annoying is that there’s this stereotype about black men creating broken homes and abandoning our children.

When a lot of times, especially when it comes to non-black women, they don’t even tell the fathers that they have a child and try and keep it secret.

A lot of these biracial children you see running around, especially amongst Hispanics, are told they had a dark skinned “abuela” to explain why they can dunk at 12 years old.

I personally don't think its entirely about black men not wanting to be in their kids lives. But moreso about black men being easier for women to cut out of their childrens lives. Partly economic. You have a baby with a man with no resources, are you going to try to co-parent with him or just cut him off and find a stepdad who has more to offer? Are you going to try to work things out the first time you have a major fight with, or just break things off right away?

This is a common issue in general these days for all races, as people are less and less likely to try to work things out and more quick to end things the first time you hit a bump in the relationship. but i noticed particularly with black men, they are easier to demonized when things don't work out. And people are less forgiving. A dog can hit by a car and people will have tears and mourn its loss. Meanwhile a black man can be murdered by a cop for resisting arrest over a parking ticket, and people will act like it was justified and well deserved. We are more disposable in the eyes of many.

Literally someone pointed out in this case, that the biological father was an acclaimed successful actor, and the mother still kept him a secret from her family because he was black.
