I'm up late and recalled when I was in jail in Albany back in 2012, there was a mix of cats in there from every borough. And one day cats broke into this random "my borough got the wildest hoods" debate...

So for all the NYers on here, if you had to number 1-5, which boroughs had the historical wildest history? And then do a 1-5 for today?

I know cats clowned the handful of SI cats, one City cat said "them nikkas may as well be Jersey" lol. So my assumption is SI is #5 both present and historical...

Manhattan you always heard abd/or met cats with stories about Dyckman/The Heights and Harlem, but you ain't hear much after that. And I had potnas and heard stories from really only a few Queens areas like QB, LIC, Southside/Jamaica, Far Rock. So my assumption is they are #4 and #3...

Cats went back and forth over BX and BK, I know BK is larger but both got notorious hoods so I'm not sure who would be #1. For the record one of my best friends fir years is from Hunts Point in The X and I was tight with cats from East NY and Brownsville...

Interested to hear an updated NY persoective, been some years since I was around alota NYers!

Brooklyn keeps on taking it.
In general this is going to be a fight between The Bronx, Manhattan and Brooklyn.

Brownsville is funny tho. When it was a Jewish neighborhood it was just as bloody when it turned black.

My 5th teacher who was Jewish use to tell me back in the Jewish days of Brownsville there was a shootout everyday.

Now as far as black people I want to say The Bronx and Harlem have wild histories.

For some strange reason I feel like Brooklyn’s wild stories aren’t told to the level of Manhattan or The Bronx.

it’s even harder to find photos of Brooklyn in its bad days compared to those two.

Staten Island wether it gets picked on or not was never known to have wild stories and even back in the crack days their hoods were def not making as much headlines as other areas.

As far as them being laughed at as being New Jersey their hoods def have no wild comparison to hoods in Elizabeth, Newark, Jersey City or Irvington.

Harlem is probably the most popular neighborhood by name in the black community in America, I think everyone has heard multiple stories at the least about Harlem. Would you say historically, it's the single wildest hood in NY (I know it isn't today)?

Never really heard cats mention anywhere in Manhattan besides Washington Heights, one cat in my block was this big Dominican from there. Cats said that area has history but all the other NYers said Dyckman/Heights nikkas are known for being "mooks" (homos) upstate, all the other Borough dudes said that lol...I really never heard nowhere else in Manhattan having a live reputation...

And all the Borough cats say SI don't even feel like NYC, that's why they say it may as well be Jersey or Upstate...

Harlem and The Bronx are def the most popular with the wildest histories. East and North Brooklyn were just as demonic but not as popular.

Outside of NY nobody knows other Brooklyn hoods outside of Bed Stuy.

Brooklyn drug dealers for some reason don’t get as much attention either.

Taking a shot in the dark here, but...
  1. Bronx
  2. Brooklyn
  3. Queens
  4. Manhattan
  5. SI
Staten Island is the only borough I’ve never been to, but I heard it’s no rosey place either, especially back in the day. I think Method Man still lives there lol.

Queens above Manhattan? Interesting
Yeah off of the strength off Jamaica, Far Rock, Hollis, some other spots I’m probably missing. I dated a hoodbooger from the Astoria projects once and I didn’t feel safe. Made sure to lock my doors in the car :dame:

Manhattan got what? Harlem, WH? I dunno about the 70’s and 80’s, but nobody is scared of no nikka repping the Heights these days. All them Dominican nikkas...

Exactly, I always felt that too. Thank Nas, Mobb Deep, Capone, etc for glorifying the projects in the 90’s. But then again, I don’t be out there like that :hubie:
