Let's say somewhere in Africa is discovered a new form of clean energy that no one previously knew about, it's only available on the African continent, it's cheap, almost endless in supply, and it poses a legit death threat to the oil-gas industry.

The oil-gas companies around the world, the USA govt, the middle east want to buy it out and squash it......but the Africans who discovered it & control it, REFUSE to sell-out or turn it over to the oil-gas companies for any amount of $$$ b/c they know these companies only want to kill it to protect themselves.

This new energy has already changed many countries in Africa for the better and they know if they hold out this can ultimately change Africa's entire course of destiny......and then spread to Europe and the rest of the world. People all around the world are now reading about it and want it as opposed to our expensive & monopolized current forms of energy

Since the Africans refuse to sell, what would be the end-result? (remember this is going to topple the oil & gas industry) A new world war? USA & other armies go to Africa and kill millions of innocent people so they can put a stop to this? Africa becomes a super power? Something else?

the only serious challenge would be from the saudis funding terrorism and fomenting some kind of major religious strife in countries with significant muslim populations. the west wouldnt have a rationale for war that can actually sell in the media.

Fair enough.....

but what kind of rationale would be "sellable" to the public who already is very interested in this new energy?

By that point, people would clearly see the govts intent to protect the oil-gas industry.

it will be discredited by the media as they drop words like 'untested' and 'potentially harmful' ..a new conveniently unidentifiable terror group will require intervention around this time.. potential for a crossover story where they want to and succeed in destroying it but right after this, they are captured and tried for their 'crimes'... they would actually be happy if africa refuse to sell.. the danger is if they begin to teach, for free.. little chance now that the net has become that little bit more 'secure' though.. also i read that solar panels covering the distance of new york could provide the world with free energy,so im pretty sure most people are aware of the monopoly already

typically an out of control terrorist situation that potentially could threaten western interests would be such a situation that could make intervention politically viable, but if these african nations are already benefiting from this new energy source, i have to assume certain things that make western interventions very difficult:

1. the nations have advanced enough to harvest/refine/distribute this energy without help
2. the nations are peaceful enough to support such an industry
3. the nations economies are growing at a rapid rate not only from local economic activity, but from exporting this energy

under the conditions you described, i have to assume these african nations can handle their security problems enough to make intervention seem unwelcome and clearly selfish. any terrorist situation would be handled locally not unlike the boko haram thing in nigeria. or the kony thing in uganda. the saudis would be the only ones with a hand to play, but i have to wonder if even religion can supercede a booming economy. i think african energy would eventually win out.

the only other hand i can think of the west playing is a tariff on african energy exports. the political rationale would be protecting american jobs.

I'm almost certain that neo-colonial puppets would be put in place through fabricated conflicts in order to gain a foothold to this resource. The only way that wouldn't happen is if upon discovering this new resource all the govts of the continent fully adopted a model in which real African unity is practiced. To go from the current status quo to the dreams of Nkrumah is an extremely tall order especially in the quicktime needed in order to avoid geopolitical fukkery by non-African states. I think it'd either be a struggle within Africa between the people and puppets of foreign interests or the demand for the new resource, coupled with a united African stance, would force the hand of other nations and make them do business with the continent. In other words, cacs would either be babies about it or they'd grow up and just let nikkaz eat for once. :yeshrug:

what you are describing is the start of battles and wars, both propaganda and military (with assassinations galore)
The incumbent corporate forces at risk of disruption would do all they could to squash it using the congress/CIA/pentagon and so on

not very complicated

we have had bengazi, syria, and now isis in iraq again and we still are not starting new wars. it appears the american people really are burned out right now
since when has that been a problem. Any conflict can be spun to make people think that it is a cause they need to get behind. If something is a threat, it will be dealt with.

but it hasnt worked yet. it takes time to let the american public's willingness for foreign adventure to recharge, add to that the fact that our overall wealth and international influence is actually on the decline unlike the 20th century and you can pretty much forsee it being difficult to get anything more than drones and spec ops for most of these flashpoints for a few years until people forget about iraq/afghanistan.

now imagine us being quite as gungho in a world where russia, china, and maybe iran own much of the contested and important geography. we had to sit there and watch ukraine with absolutely no leverage on the russians. there are no consequences for our imperial peers now. iran will benefit from us hitting isis and yet we probably will still help even though it steps on israel's toes. we have to update our understanding of the world. USA isnt what it used to be, breh.
