20k?

Cmon man...that don't make any sense
there are a 100 million people in Ethiopia
90 ethnic groups
80 different languages spoken

20k is definitely possible for a country with a population of 1.4 billie
Way too many ethnic groups from way too many States, cities, towns and villages

India has 1.4 billion people, the whole African continent has 1.2 billion people. I believe it, I know there’s an ethnic group and a language called Canada
True but that 1.2 billion in Africa is spread out across an entire continent. Like another poster said there's probably significant overlap to the point where foreigners won't tell the difference easily.

I’m Pakistani myself (which isn’t a singular ethnicity either). In an alternate reality, if the British didn’t take over and unify the entire subcontinent, South Asia may have looked more like Europe in terms of multiple nations divided on ethnic lines. India itself is like a more centralized EU.

IDK about the numbers in OP though (2k ethnicities and 20k languages). I think a lot of those are probably subgroups/dialects of others.
