I'm not trying to get into a deep theological conversation but faith is all God asks of us. Its the cornerstone of the whole religion. Everything by faith.
Faith is all that is required. However, not everyone has a gift to preach or evangelize tho. Some people's gifts are in praise like King David's Psalms. King Solomon was gifted with practical wisdom while Samson was gifted with strength and bravery.

Those who do preach or evangelize need to know apologetics.

Yeah, for sure. That evangelizing stuff is not for everyone. You really need to study and do your research before you do it. Me, I'm not interested in it. I like the church and I'm involved in it but I'm not an evangelist. I leave that to the people that know more. But even if you have knowledge I'm sure someone will have a comment or question that might stump you, from time to time.

You never stop learning or growing so that's why some evangelists don't mind if they don't know all the answers.

It seems as if a lot of these Mormon elders are fresh and new to the religion and sent to evangelize straight away. They don't even have a clue of what they're talking about.

Yup, you can tell by how upset they got instead of just saying, "you know what? That's an interesting point. Let me get your or give you my contact info, so I can come back with an answer."
Getting upset means you're insecure because you don't have a solid foundation on your beliefs.

I think you should have a couple of years of knowledge and being in the church before you go out evangelizing. The people from my church I know go out like that are all ministers or deacons or have been in the church for a long time.

The South Park episode about the Mormons and Joseph Smith was hilarious.

Apologetics: arguing for your brand of bullshyt better than your opponent

Honestly no one in this video impressed me. The dude arguing with the Mormons latched onto them saying "the people" rejected Jesus and argued that the Crucifixion was merely the standard method of execution under the Roman government.

Of course the actual Bible account does have the people, or populace, clamoring for Jesus' execution, shouting "Crucify him!" The Roman governor, Pontius Pilate, tried to let Jesus go, but he gave into public opinion and the protests of the Jewish assembly.

Not that it matters because it's all bullshyt anyway, but honestly the guy's argument was poor. He just did a good job of talking over these inexperienced Mormon youths.

The primary weakness in any religious argument is that there is no evidence for the existence of God and no evidence that one religion is any closer to truth than another. So if you genuinely believe, you will eventually either withdraw from the argument or become very emotional in your defense of it. It's an untenable position.

Whereas with me being an atheist yet knowledgeable of religion and the Bible, I can easily argue for bullshyt and competently obfuscate the actual issues. All it takes is logically dismantling a person's religious beliefs (which can be done with every religious belief) whilst at the same time promoting one particular brand of bullshyt, or religious belief, as the only "logical" conclusion, skillfully using logical fallacies to that end.

That's why I honestly think that the best apologetics are secretly atheist. There's too much intellectual dishonesty in religion for educated intelligent people who actually give a damn. :manny:

I don't think you should start evangelizing until you learn apologetics or have someone on your team who does

Most people dont take Christians seriously because they usually can't black up their beliefs with facts. They leave everything to faith. But when someone asks them why do you believe what you believe and how do you know that your book is true, they don't have answers.
But friend, Christians biggest critics are usually people enrolled in satans university of demonic filth.
