NY doesn't have a definitive classic album after GRODT.

Some debatable ones in there. I'd say The Black Album though.

Madvillainy was too underground and FishScale didn't have notable impact/influence to be labelled as a classic. Great albums though.

It debuted at the same position as the OG OBFCL. Are you gonna tell me that album had no impact?

Can we please stop acting like Billboard Charts are an end all for how impactful an album is? You know what other album debuted at #4? Immobilarity, his 2nd album. Is there a single person that will argue that album was 'impactful'? Absolutely not, that album was garbage compared to his first one

To me, a classic doesn’t have to be commercially successful. Much of what we consider classic isn’t consumed by the masses or they’re late to the party. That said I consider the following classics:

I’m not saying it’s the be all end all, for the exact reason that you’re raising here. It’s a factor though. OBFCL 2 sold well, and was generally considered one of the best rap albums in years at that point.

It was that rare instance when something was long awaited and delivered.

I don’t know how you could have been a fan in 2009 and thought that album had no impact :hubie:

I'll agree with that. Definitely one of the few times that a sequel didn't end up being complete garbage. Plus who can forget We Will Rob You

GRODT being a classic :mjlol:

besides In Da Club and Many Men, that album get zero play
Massacre was better. In retrospect the hype>quality. I have no urge to throw it in. Would rather listen to the black album or Philadelphia Freeway
