Xi might be stupid enough to think China can survive by shutting out the rest of the world

China is currently being run by 'princelings' whose chief accomplishment is having the right daddy. I think the self-delusion and illusion of merit is catching up to them. The previous two presidents (Jiang Zemin & Hu Jintao) came from poorer backgrounds and rose through the ranks. They were ambitious, yet cautious given their backgrounds.

Those “people” make up HK. I don’t think a brain drain was the plan.

For example let’s say the majority of NYC said “fukk ya’ll” and bounced To Canada. You think America isn’t pissed at losing all those skilled workers and high earners?

Which is why China is being snotty and evil about them leaving. They want them as a workforce, but HK wasn’t subdued enough for their liking.

It is hard to say. Protestors aren't the face of the brain drain. Also, when HK joined China it was like 30% of their GDP or something crazy. I don't think it is even 5% right now. If they could move some of that biz to Shenzhen or Shanghai without missing a beat they would do so in a heartbeat.

I dated a half Chinese girl in college who was from HK. We would get into it because she would swear up and down that the Chinese government was essentially benevolent, would mind its own business as it grew as a superpower, and didn't have the same expansionist / imperialist tendencies as the US.
