Hot Take: Alfonso Ribeiro should've gotten the same support that Michael B Jordan is getting right now over the "corny" discourse.

To keep it short and to the point, literally NO ONE was calling MBJ "corny" at all before this whole interview with that girl from his old high school. It just wasn't a thing and anyone who says otherwise is revising history. Even the most hateful parts of Shea Butter Twitter were praising his previous relationship with Lori Harvey.

Everyone in the Black community was rooting for MBJ when he was on the first 2 Creeds and played Killmonger on Black Panther. Dude was literally the biggest Black male sex symbol to young Black women for a while(probably still is.) And, out of all the numerous Black celebs labeled "corny", he wasn't one of them. Compare how many times J Cole or Lupe Fiasco got labeled "corny" compared to MBJ for instance.

It feels disingenuous to use MJB of all people as an example of Black men being unfairly labeled "corny" for not being stereotypical. He was literally never called that in real life, on Black Twitter, or anywhere on social media before this happened.

If anything, Alfonso Ribeiro deserves this level of support way more than MBJ. He said in many interviews how he doesn't feel accepted by the Black community and how him posting a pic of him and the family he has with his PAWG made him even more insecure about how he feels the Black community feels about him since he got clowned and bashed relentlessly even right here on the Coli.

He also said that he had regrets being tied to his Carlton character who was basically portrayed as a corny person and even a sellout. He spoke about how he even feels like a "c00n" for being pressured to do the Carlton Dance when White people bump into him.

Unlike MBJ, Alfonso was never a heartthrob to young Black women(Well, if he was in the 90's, it quickly faded away). His most famous role, Carlton, is constantly used as a stereotypical "corny" archetype unlike Adonis or Killmonger. Alfonso also said many times he felt like he wasn't accepted by the Black community unlike MBJ.

All I'm saying is: If ya'll are serious about Black men being unfairly labeled "corny", ya'll should've championed and embraced Alfonso Ribeiro. But, of course, it's better to rally around a stud/heartthrob like MBJ who's NEVER been labeled corny before unlike the actual brothers who've gotten labeled corny constantly.

That's why the whole debate just comes across as fake to me. Same brothers trying to stick up for MBJ and lowkey live vicariously through him will turn around and call Black men who actually fit the "corny/weird" archetype or aesthetic that and clown them.

I find MBJ more corny then Alfonso. Alfonso actually looks like he is just being himself. MBJ on the other hand.

But all black men aren’t labeled corny so what you’re really saying is the dudes who are called corny are “unfairly” being labeled that way. So there are no corny black dudes?

I was about to say when the show was on the air Alphonso could get any girl he wanted … corny wasn’t really a thing back then as much as it is now

I kinda see your point but the issue is that people like to pick and choose when "corny" is acceptable or not.

Ironically, MBJ blatantly being someone who doesn't fit the archetype draws more outrage than someone like Alfonso or Lupe Fiasco being labeled the same exact thing.

That's why I feel this is lowkey faux outrage. MBJ is not even remotely close to the only Black man labeled corny and, prior to this discourse, he never was. People were literally saying MBJ was the best part of Black Panther in real time when the movie came out even though Chadwick got more props after death.

In all seriousness the fact that brehs on the coli see themselves or the avg corny guy in MBJ is hilarious in itself.

But Carlton not feeling accepted by the Black community is dumb. Go pawg in peace and chill the fukk out.
