Lamar CISD teacher caught on video insulting students, saying she 'wants to be fired'
A teacher from Lamar Consolidated Independent School District was recently heard on video spewing disturbing comments and insulting students.
The teacher's rant took place at Wright Junior High School in Richmond and Fort Bend County, the district said in a statement. Fox 26 reported that a student recorded it all on camera. It's not clear from the video whether it was taken in a classroom or other setting
Although no faces are shown in the outburst, the unidentified teacher is heard disrespecting the students and calling them names.
"If I have to keep dealing with kids that are complete and utter morons, I’m done. I’m literally done," the teacher is heard saying after telling someone that she was ready to "walkout" and vowing unashamedly to tell the school principal.
"I don’t even care if I lose my job, I want to be fired at this point. I literally am going to hurt myself if I have to keep coming here. So ridiculous. I told my kids, I was like I have never in my life dealt with kids that are so awful that if they fell into a river I would let them float away. Literally see ya!"
Someone is heard in the background asking "you wouldn't throw a log?" to which the teacher is heard replying: "Nope I might throw a log on them so they sink."
The video went viral after a Richmond woman posted it to Facebook, leading to comments from many parents who said they are alarmed.
"If you are feeling like this as a teacher, get help first of all, then take some mental time off not working for a while, then change professions when you are fully recovered," wrote Richmond resident Desiree Gutierrez, who shared the post on Facebook. "This behavior is barely tolerated from kids so teachers, as adults should never! IDC how stressed you are."
"I was surprised she would make those comments in front of students knowing they could hear everything," said Amy Jones, a parent who has a child at Wright. "As a parent you worry about other students going to school doing something unimaginable and to see that it makes you worry about teachers coming to school doing the same."
Others called for the teacher to be fired.
"I understand that teachers are under a lot of strain, but this is (inexcusable)," wrote Lisa Gafken on Facebook. "For a teacher to say these things to children is beyond damaging. Step outside and regain composure, but DO NOT harm the children. What an awful display of human weakness. I feel so bad for the kids. She should be dismissed immediately."
A district spokesperson said the teacher is a first-year Lamar CISD employee and has been placed on administrative leave. The district sent the following statement:
In the full video shared by Gutierrez, the teacher is also heard saying that she's never hated children and that she wants to volunteer to go work at the district's Juvenile Detention Center campus.
"I want to carry a gun on my hip and intimidate people," the teacher said. "You get to be a police officer there and then you can hit them on their smart (expletive)," she says before lowering her voice to a whisper.
Kennedy Franklin, who identified on Facebook as one of the students in the class, said they believe the teacher's tirade was the result of a buildup of frustration.
"I’m one of the kids there the real reason is that they pushed her buttons and she was going through a lot," wrote Franklin, who did not respond to requests for further comment.
