other kid's moms being crackheads and they literally had no food in the house, and depended on other women in the neighborhood just to not be hungry when school was out. i wasnt allowed to answer the door for a certain uncle when i was home alone, because he would have robbed us. my cousins who lived in the village(oakland projects) would tell me the police had pulled them out of bed looking for my aunts boyfriend, and they saw people literally get shot in the head in front of them. i remeber people just milling around like zombies, and seeing the police pull a body out of the dumpster behind safeway.

My pops told me Jamaica Queens,Far Rock and Le Frack city was just no go areas that you shouldnt go to at the time. He did delivery when he first met my moms and went everywhere in NYC. He said he got mugged twice tho in Brooklyn. But Queens was really bad.

I don't remember too much of Jamaica Queens although I didn't live far from there, but I remember hearing about Far Rock and Lefrak. I lived not too far (and later attended when they cleaned it up) from Andrew Jackson High School and I heard all kinds of stories from crack dealing to murders taking place there.

That whole time was crazy, that's why although I haven't to NY since 2000, it's crazy hearing about how the city has "gone soft" when I remember it VERY differently.
