How come Daz Dillinger never made it big as a producer/emcee?

Daz has always always done a good job at being both a producer and an emcee. Was/is it lack of promotion and being independent?

His work as both a producer and emcee have always been good:

And he's still very talented too, this joint he produced and featured on with Curren$y is great:

the debut album is the best a lot of times because they have been "making" that album in their head for 20 odd years whereas the others have a few years and even less these days.

it's just like everything, movie writers, authors, every art has that decline because people can't just be create at their peak forever. they get stuck in a lane, try to please their fans, try to recapture their past glory or are scared to fail so they don't try anything new.

Probably smoked copious amounts of weed made a little money and lost the passion and hunger that it took to make it to the top. He still has had a decent career though with a lot of fukkery and funny moments involved.

Go check R.A.W. Pure heat. RRG is of course his best solo but R.A.W is not far behind.

Dillinger and Gotti was dope too but i know what folks mean .... he produced and recorded so much stuff and just threw it together, a lot of stuff didn't even sound mastered. He was pushing the independent game so hard (and successfully it must be said) he just tried to get out as much shyt as possible to stack them p's.

But i've always checked for Daz - got every album. I think in his day he was an elite producer and to this day still makes that heat every now and then.

When he moved down south he changed the style of his production though, a lot of 808's and shyt - i didn't really like it. Then he tried acting, directing all sought of stuff and it think things just got rushed.

right, so all the self financing since he went independent came from what money?

:duck:

He's been grinding indepedntly since deathrow other then a one album deal with so so def. Daz had his own money from producing,at the end of his death row tenure when he was basically running the show he stole a bunch of masters and released the music. Hence the raw album and the soopafly album.daz had already released several solo projects and a dpg album that sold well indepedntyl before the judge ever ordered suge to pay that money. But like I said daz didn't see any of that shyt. Dudes just been grinding making his own money. Dazz woulda retired if he got that money.
