Actually.... Obama had a really famous speech that he made to congress in 2006 I think it was? The topic was religion and politics... His speech was so different than what we are used to hearing from politicians that it was seen as controversial, which really started to garner himself some attention... Eventually the media started taking notice, people started endorsing, campaign money started flowing, and the rest was history...
