How come politicians don't bring up trade school? Nobody talks about it

There's so much money to be made in the trades. Join after highschool and you could be a 24 yr old journeyman making $80,000/yr.

And you don't even have to stay in the trades forever, you could go back to school, get a business degree and start a Subcontractor or General Contractor company. Or do whatever you want, regardless you'll have the money to pay for it.

nikkas always talking about free school, good luck competing with 10,000 English graduates:francis:

Louisiana
In Louisiana at least , the trades are taught at Community colleges so they would be covered under "Free School" proposals. I mean any serious legislation should atleast try to subsidize everything community college, 4 year university, job training like CDL driving schools, coding bootcamps ,etc...

It's better that they are taught at CCs if you ask me. Student graduates with an accredited Associates Degree in addition to whatever certification he/she gets.
They can stay away from the for-profit schools with shaky reputations offering shaky credentials.

There's an ongoing thread about current free tuition programs across the country. NJ has free CC program.

Most of the trades (plumbers especially and mechanics) are looked at as....lesser? Jobs of the work field. Dont know why, but they are.

You can make some damn good bread so often folks have the :ohhh: face when you tell em how much you make a year.

It seem like a lot of the trade schools are on some scam shyt too. Those Orleans or ITT type trade schools.
It seems best if you already know someone doing it and you go in and learn on the job

People can't or don't distinguish between a licensed tradesman and the local hustleman. They think it's the same thing ..........with the same kind of pay

Nobody dreams of their kid growing-up to be a Welder, that's why...

...you should have seen the looks people gave me when I told them I was going to a trade school instead of a traditional 4-year college (my girlfriend at the time damn-near burst into tears) -- it was as if I was giving-up on education to go join a traveling-circus.

I graduated from ITT Tech in 2002 with an A.S. in Electrical Engineering Technology and I've been gainfully employed ever since -- though admittedly, if I could do it all over again, I would go to a 4-year school because that B.S. opens-up so many more doors.

But our options aren't limited to Software Engineer or Burger Flipper -- there's a ton of well-paying careers out there for people who are willing to commit to a Trade (the highly educated won't do it and the under educated don't qualify).
