Because light skin people are generally not insecure about having light skin. Whenever a dark skin model is given props it’s almost always with an unspoken subtext of “aww see dark is beautiful too” whereas light skin you almost have to downplay as if to say “her skin adds nothing, she’d be beautiful dark too”.

I think lighter skin men that date dark skin women usually do because:
1. They know light skin women (in their fam) and realize it isnt anything special.
2. They date dark skin women to validate their blackness. (A la Laurence Fishburne's character in School Daze)
3. They're fascinated/intrigued and attracted to dark skin and/or kinky hair.
4. They just love women in general.
There can be some personal self hate (see #2) but it isnt seen as a larger/societal issue because the general media sends messages that lighter skin is better.
Tho in black communities light skin dudes get roasted for being soft. In comparison, to darkskin issues it seems slight.
