Most of the guys running the game now are in their mid 20s to late 30s. When I think of young ass rappers who are actually relevant to the culture its really only Chief Keef. I feel a major reason why the Chicago drill scene was so amazing was because it was Young nikkas putting their lifestyles on records. Even Bobby Shmurda already in his 20s.

Why are rappers getting on so late. Has the barrier of entry for hip hop shifted to your 20s now?

when you think about it...that nikka Shyheim dropped his debut @14, Koopsta Knicca released the first Devil's Playground when he was 15 :ehh: and Outkast dropped their debut when they were both 16

there are young rappers doing it nowadays but not that young

because before, nikkas didn't have to sign deals 2 to 5 years ahead of time before showing up out of "nowhere", and the labels don't put youngins on as soon as they start making noise "underground" nowadays because it's deemed a "bad investment" record selling wise.

there are just as many now if not more, difference is it takes like 4-5 years before they catch a real buzz
which will therefore result in them ageing in the process those rappers in the their mid 20s have been in the game for several years now anyway i.e drake, nipsey, meek mill

the industry been stopped dealing with street dudes like that. chief keef & bobby shmurda only got on cuz the labels saw a quick buck. i wouldnt be surprised if keef gets dropped within the next year.

i remember some dude leaked out the info on here like 10 years ago. it seems like im the only one that remembers this. and what he said came to fruition. they only want to deal with street dudes if theyre older & not as wild, or if theyre middle-class hood dudes that arent problematic but still carry just enough authenticity.

and this was right around when the industry was getting behind kanye west all crazy. so you can put 2 & 2 together, and add 4 to that.

This is probably it. It takes so long for rappers to catch on nowadays. Even cats like Chief Keef and Young Thug were rapping for at least 3 years before they blew.

You gotta start rapping at 15 if you trying to blow before 20.
