How come we have been using credit cards, debit cards, cash app, etc for years but people are still skeptical of crypto?

I was at a farmers market and noticed how many vendors have QR codes set up or devices to handle card transactions and it made me wonder. For more than a decade now you could have lived your life without touching cash and been perfectly fine for the most part but people still act like the idea of having digital currency is outlandish in 2025.

Is it because there isn't a clear cut "winner" of the digital currency yet,(I mean you can argue Bitcoin is already occupying that space) you don't understand how it works, or it doesn't seem widely accepted yet ?

What is crypto value tied to?

Computer code. From what I understand some are completely worthless fueled by a desire to flip money into an investment while others are backed by proof of work or proof of stake. I dont want this thread to be about whether you should invest in them or not

Every time I ask a crypto supporter to name one real world usecase for cryptocurrency that cannot also be done with regular currency, I can never get an answer. That makes me slightly skeptical.

And I'm asking genuinely, how can I use this technology beyond hoarding and speculating? What problem does cryptocurrency solve for me, average joe, that can't be solved using traditional finance and investing?

And in my own personal experience, it's very often that people who are pushing cryptocurrency the most are people that I would not take advice from about ANY matter, let alone financial advice.
