how could a black person get excited about "Independence Day"?

now I don't see nothing wrong with a day off to eat food and chill with family but how could you be on some "God Bless America" tip, proudly flying flags, wearing red, white and blue when during this country's "Independence Day", 20% of the inhabitants (aka black people) were still slaves? that don't rub anybody the wrong way??

I doubt most people are caught up in deep patriotism. It is a day off with family, friends and good food. In terms of history, American absolutely destroyed the Natives and put blacks into centuries of slavery and genocide. The pain is real and not so far away.
