remember back in 2002 after 8 Mile dropped, MTV tried to get on the bandwagon with that MTV Battle contest shyt with "Reignman" and dude from Detroit with the winner singing to Roc A Fella (which never happened lol)

then BET Freestyle friday etc... then shyt died for like 5-6 years.. then this URL/Smack shyt pops off...

and remember when Geeks used to get upset at rappers using "written" rhymes during their battles :whoa:

shyt aint hot no one gives a fukk about that shyt

Battles getting a million views and battlers getting 5-10k a battle says otherwise.

Grindtime is almost entirely responsible for this current wave blowing up, which makes it sad/hilarious that they're no longer around to reap the benefits of the game at its peak.

The first URL event was Holla v T-Rex, which only happened after Grindtime set up a Rex-Holla match that fell through. That shyt altered the course of history. Grindtime put on Hollow, Conceited, and D.N.A., had Arsonal, Aye Verb battled on GT. Rex and Holla joining the GTNY roster would've basically set them up with every aspect of the battling game covered. But URL popping up and Smack getting his name back out there immediately put them in second.

battling is kind of corny...
1) Fans for the most part stick to their favorite rapper, no matter how much he gets sonned, case in point, "your mother is a crackhead, and kim is known slut, so what's Haillie gon be when she grows up" hahahah...And yet the consensus is that Eminem won that battle...Really?

2) The average battle rapper sounds like a spoken word amateur comedian...Dudes are just standing in front of a crowd telling jokes, so the best joker wins...
Case in point, Serius Jones just clowned Jin to oblivion...hahaha...I felt sorry for Jin gettin destroyed like that...

Battle rapping should be about who has the most skills in in terms of lyrics, delivery, on the beat flow, and versatility...

It shouldnt only be about who can tell the best jokes...

Rebirth? He did that at a big venue which already implies it was doing well before that. The new generation of battlers took it to another level.

When Cal was saying that in that battle he really wasn't wrong.

This era of battling is entertaining as hell. These dudes are putting on a show. It's more than just battling the dude in front of you, you gotta showmanship.
