Its dark and hell is hot 1998- 4.8 million sold
flesh of my flesh blood of my blood 1998- 3.5 million sold
and then there was X 1999- 4.9 million sold
the great depression 2001- 1.8 million sold
Grand Champ 2003- 1.2 million sold

I could have swore the great depression sold like 4- 5 million until I looked it up, but he was done as a top selling rapper already in 2001. How did he go from going selling 5 million to never selling over 2 million again that quickly?

To answer your question back then listener fatigue was real, unless you kept with new concepts or were an elite spitter. Same reason why Fif went from Diamond to Needing Ye to go Plat in the span of 4 years

Musically fell off and stopped innovating.

The fall off from and there was X to the great depression was based on singles and bangers not being on the same level. He still came out and did nearly half a mill first week, meaning buzz was still the same, but the album did not have legs due to it neither having big singles nor being very good. Then he came out again, this time with a banger, but only one and he wasn't really innovating, which toned down the general excitement. Plus again the album was so-so.

His music got stale...

I actually liked we right here off great depression...but it's not 1st single material..
Neither was who we be...
The album itself wasn't up to par...

The other album with where the hood at...I liked that song as well...but I never got around to listening to that album...he was basically overshadowed by the g unit blitz....

The blame pretty much goes to ruff ryders...

They just didn't evolve and adapt...
