Because whether or not you liked Obama as a President, he was a transcendent figure in a lot ways, but also Obama's team had some of the best ground game that there ever was, he got his base to vote not once but twice. It was unrealistic of Hilary to rely on those same demographics to carry her by proxy, and it was silly of Obama to try and shame those same people into voting for her when her record as SOT was brutal, and has the personality of that prissy private school girl who loses herself appealing to everyone and no one at the same time.

The polls gave Hillary a 93% chance of winning MI against Sanders and he obliterated her by 19 points
After that they made sure there were no open primaries, and that voters had to have been registered democrats BEFORE the primary cycle.
Why even take the win like that? Why even take that petty win when you know it isn't real? Why allow her to rig it like that knowing she'd lose, when you know the presidential election is an open primary? I can say as much as I hated Trump, I never once defended or supported Hillary on anything. And maybe if a guy like myself who considers himself a left winger on economic issues cannot connect with Hillary at all, how many millions like me just stayed home?
Because Barack Obama, apart from being a very personable, likeable, eloquent man with no credible personal baggage, never ran as a corporatist status quo candidate. 2008-Hope & Change, peace. Paints McCain as a aging warhawk who's out of touch with normal people. 2012-Continued hope, future. Attacks Romney as took of big business.

People really need to understand that Obama was not the norm, he was the exception when it comes to candidates. This is the problem going forward with this flimsy ass Obama coalition, if it takes an Obama like candidate to get them to turn out then be prepared for more republican victories.
