I was using "tea party" to mean a renegade populist, grassroots political movement, not in the sense of the "Tea Party" that produced Joni Ernst/Christine O'Donnell etc.

Um yes and no. Obviously with the rise of conservatism there will be a rise among progressives. But that's not a good thing. If progressive policies can only spread as a reaction to trump logic, then that means you have to take a substantial hit at the local, state, and fed level politically - a hit which we can't afford.
I think that's the point a lot of ppl are missing. You can't just throw away 4 years of your life like you can get it back in the 5th with a do-over. Those are careers wasted, babies born, homes foreclosed on, thousands of drone missiles launched, hundreds of court battles against racist policies....the shyt isn't just the stock market losing paper value. We're talking about 320 million human lives being directly affected - followed by 6.5 billion. We can't afford do-overs. There is no get back. It takes more than one election to erase the consequences of bad public policy.
