Pretty much this........1 or 2 hot singles was enough for most to buy an album. iTunes wasn't as popular (or even around at first), so it was either buy the LP, download illegally, or dub it. People also forget we weren't in a recession in the late 90s-early 2000s and that was a HUGE reason sales were so high.
