I think about this often. If blacks had been given their 40acres to farm and a mule how different life would have been? Look how far we have come without it and our communities taken from us. Imagine how advanced we would be now?

The south would more than likely be BLACK. Most blacks left the south for jobs in the north and to escape the KKK. If we owned farms and communities we would have been much stronger. More blacks would have stayed.

Hypothetically, if we were allowed to keep the lands given to us by Sherman. The Klan and other White militia groups would have been 10x harder on us and the land would probably be stolen at gunpoint.

Yall gotta remember, even those of us (Talking strictly AA this time.) that DID find ourselves holding land, had them taken from us through trickery and violence in the immediate post-war era.

AP Documents Land Taken From Blacks Through Trickery, Violence and Murder
n some cases, government officials approved the land takings; in others, they took part in them. The earliest occurred before the Civil War; others are being litigated today.

Some of the land taken from black families has become a country club in Virginia, oil fields in Mississippi, a major-league baseball spring training facility in Florida.

•After midnight on Oct. 4, 1908, 50 hooded white men surrounded the home of a black farmer in Hickman, Ky., and ordered him to come out for a whipping. When David Walker refused and shot at them instead, the mob poured coal oil on his house and set it afire, according to contemporary newspaper accounts. Pleading for mercy, Walker ran out the front door, followed by four screaming children and his wife, carrying a baby in her arms. The mob shot them all, wounding three children and killing the others. Walker's oldest son never escaped the burning house. No one was ever charged with the killings, and the surviving children were deprived of the farm their father died defending. Land records show that Walker's 2 1/2-acre farm was simply folded into the property of a white neighbor. The neighbor soon sold it to another man, whose daughter owns the undeveloped land today.

If Tulsa was any indication, I think if reparations had been implemented and spurred burgeoning successful Black communities, there would have been a race war throughout the South. Which would have lead to a second civil war at some point during the early to mid 1900s. Instead we've seen something more akin to battles and skirmishes both violent and social since the end of the civil war and especially after Black people had assimilated and achieved some success and normalcy in this country. That conflict is still going on to this day as evident by Trump, the Alt Right, Neo Confederacy, militia movement, NRA, etc.. If white resentment can result in these movements today, imagine how rabid their hostility would be if reparations back then had been successful? There would have been another major conflict.

The Klan terrorized us to make us stay in our place, and not attempt to compete with them. So on one hand, if we had reparations, maybe they would have accepted that we had our own stuff, and not such a threat to their position. On the other hand, they burnt down our thriving towns, robbed our businesess, and would probably still done it if we had reparations.

They can't stand to see us succeed in any way, and will always be mad when we do, because they're convinced we're naturally inferior.
