I don't think we have a full appreciation for what those black folks did during that single decade to make things better for us now

We would still have a black economy. If there was no civil rights we would've fought for true equal justice with our own court and education system. Honestly I thing segregation could've worked in our favor if we worked for true equality if that makes any sense.
