Neck ties and boxing gloves.
All systems are a means of control. It’s the nature of any system to limit movement, language, and thought into a precise and predictable set of variables.
So the question I have is…

What is your point?
Are you adverse to Christianity because you believe it be a white system?
Or are you questioning religious systems as a whole?
What is your point?

The premise of the thread is asking how can black people practice a religion that was used to enslave them.

He brought up information suggesting that its okay because Africans were practicing it before Europeans. Thats more of a fun fact at this point especially in relation to the premise. A side note.

That changes nothing. Its still a fact that black (or any group victmized by colonialism) American Christianity to this day is a tradition that still adheres to the interpretation used by slave owners to effectively subjecate black people whether still blatantly or not.

It has little or nothing to do with any African interpretation and practice. Its relevant history in this thread's context really begins with weaponized Christian missionary work. The average modern black Christian knows little about any African Christian world history making it irrelevant to the question posed.

Back to the premise of this thread how can modern black Christians in 2023 with information so readily available and freedom of individual thought reconcile practicing a religion thats established to be self defeating in favor of institutional powers that be?

Willful ignorance seems to be the answer.

The poster I responded to by his own admission said he didnt bother to read the thread. Thats clearly reflected in his post. Granted, the thread does ask how do you rationalize this. I guess some vague connection to distant world history is a good enough excuse.

So my point has nothing to do with my personal religious beliefs. It has to do with collective willful ignorance and my distaste for it.

Christians can choose to be Christian or not.
Muslims on the other hand cannot..

Besides, the religion developed in Africa and nowhere near the western world. They just co opted it like everything else.

So less of a questions and more of a condemnation…

Funny how people’s answers are nobody made me a Christian yet they families are only Christian because they ancestors were forced to be. The only way you can choose the religion in an organic matter is if you come from a family that were not Christian’s. Otherwise we are all indoctrinated as descendants of slaves. They didn’t have a choice to follow christianity. They were SLAVES. Whether black people practiced christianity in Africa before slavery, still does not mean that your specific ancestors that came over on that boat were Christian. Just because I was a Christian doesn’t mean I was blind to the truth of why we believe what we believe. The religion is as Force fed
