And I don't even just mean the water weight or losing 5-10 pounds right before a fight.

I just mean how these motherfukkers go from 200+ to 160 and shyt in a couple of months. It's not even necessarily the weight loss itself that gets me :dwillhuh: it's the idea that a guy who is so undisciplined to gain so much weight when he's not fighting can have the discipline to lose all of that weight in order to fight.

Someone explain this phenomenon to me. :mindblown:

First off not to many guys are going from 200 plus to 160 but yes there can be a fair amount of weight lost.

The obvious answer is the weight loss comes from intensive training for hour upon hour, day after day, week after week.

Further it's not really being lazy its more just needing a break from such exhausting effort of a training camp.Even if a pro athlete(not just boxers) stay in fairly good shape, few can keep that intensity up year round and even they (Floyd Mayweather for example) will be above fighting/playing shape/weight when not in camp.

Ultimately ramping up your training multiple levels will give you results.

I hear you OP but you have to remember, these guys only weigh that for a few hours just before the weigh in. A man that walks around at 185 fighting at 154 will only weigh 154 for a few hours. He was probably 160 a day or 2 before the weigh in and the night of the fight he is 170ish. So from there he puts on 15lbs in the next month or two and is back at walk around weight. They arent undiscipline at their walk around weight for the most part, thats their natural size. The problem is they are killing themselves those last 8-10 hours for that weigh in weight. They should be fighting at a higher division.

They say the first 4 weeks of camp is losing the weight. So imagine going from eating whatever you want and not exercising (extreme example) for 2-3 months, and then eating 2200 calories a day while doing 4-5hrs of exercise that could almost all be considered cardio, in extremely hot environments

A fight exerts tremendous energy, 20 min may feel like a hour in the ring or in a fight period......Plus with added exercises, conditioning, the weight should fly off

Nah.

They cut carbs fight week and trick their bodies into "flush mode" which dehydrates them.

edit I aint read op nikkas go through training camp to lose weight instead of training for their opponent. :manny:

average boxing workout is 5-6 hours a day that's a crazy amount of calories burned

I lost 20 lbs in like a 3-4 month span and wasn't even running like that because of shin splints or eating right really. I was doing boxing drills maybe 9-12 hours a week (rope, heavy bag, pads, drills, etc)

Compare that to dudes running 3-5 miles a day and doing 6+ hours a day of drills and eating right. Don't seem that unrealistic, especially if you're under 30

I lost 20 pounds in two months from just eating right and working out 90 minutes a day.

If I had the time to train like a boxer :banderas:

Yeah I am right there with you. These guys are big time professional athletes, it always amazes me to see guys (even basketball, football players, etc...) get out of shape in the off season when they know they are going to have to be right back at it again.

My only explanation is that it is human nature. Most people can't live at the full peak extremes like a Kobe Bryant and be committed 24/7. Human nature to slack off a bit when you have some breathing room.

The side of weight loss is valid too, the cutting to make weight is a vicious cycle, doesn't seem like it is for the faint of heart.

People naturally procrastinate or need a reason to go to the gym.

Also, the training is so extreme, that you can take short cuts (with diet) and still lose a significant amount of weight. It's a sport that really burns a lot of calories.

Yeah, I agree. Human nature to slack a little. Why Floyd was so great. Don't spend camp making weight, spend your time working on strategy.
