What wrestlers/promotions are you interested in from the 80's?
First thing u need to do is look up Macho Man Randy Savage and his entire career. That's what a superstar looks and sounds like.

Yep. That old school style of wrasslin can be redundant, but it exceeds compared to the 50s style of wrestling
. I remember watching a 2 out of 3 falls match from the 50s and oh man

In between that you should check out the uwf stuff to see guys like sting, and hot stuff Eddie Gilbert. Plus how his whole everything was taken by hbk.
As far as WWE,...
Quality wise, watch WWE broadcasts.
that showcase the debut of Randy savage, his original squash matches that put him in tweener territory so you learn his mean streak.
Watch those till the intro of Liz and then the first savage/steamboat encounters to their mania three match.
After that WWE is complete bullshyt and not worth a revisit. After that just watch all nwa. As it is just flat out better and WWE's catalog is a waste of time in the eighties outside of macho. You could indulge in bulldogs vs hart foundation to see Bret hart be just as violently evil and malicious as possible as the top heel in all the WWE before savage showed up. Yet it is even a waste of time because all the rock n roll express vs midnites with cornette is the best wrestling that ever aired or was produced. So if you want you should watch savage and bulldogs/hart foundation before going to the nwa stuff as the nwa stuff is all superior.
Only programming on par with the nwa in that era was the original roh on directv.
So, if your willing to spend your time going back. I would say take this route.
If you go the hulk a mania route you will piss yourself off for wasting your time.
The only good mania match is Hogan versus Mr. wonderful, as that is the only Hogan match where Hogan actually can be viewed as working worth a damn. Which he had to do because me wonderful was flat out better than Hogan and should have been the actual heel champion to dethrone Hogan. Instead he settled for a mania payoff with an injured wing. That eventually would ruin his look career and even ability to be visually photographed with convincability.
Outside of that if you are black you will see how they siphoned off of rocky and mr t.
Plus you may feel a certain type of way. So I would say just stick to Hogan vs me wonderful and you have seen all the quality and only quality Hogan provided in any of his runs.
Not to mention if you want to see the real Hogan,...magnum Ta will make you wonder what if.
