How do I get into 80s/early 90s wrestling

I'm tryna expand my pallet brehs. Tried to watch the entirety of WM 6 and I couldn't. I wanna see Hulkamania and prime savage. Eventually other promotions as well. My time with wrestling was the late 90s. I've obviously seen most of the huge matches such as Hogan/Andre, Hogan/Warrior, Savage/Steamboat. I haven't watched any full WrestleMania before 11 tho.

I've got the network. There wasn't raw every Monday back then so what order do I go in with what shows? Right now I'm watching the first SNME.

But OP why not just watch each sat night and find the ppv attached to it next from say 1986?

I just love that event, from the atmosphere, to the commentary, to the matches which just all flow very well.

To the OP, it might be hard for you to enjoy b/c if you started in the late 90's, then you don't know alot of the guys from the early 90s. It'd be like me trying to watch an era of wrestling I don't relate to

Watch stuff like the old Royal Rumbles, I'd suggest '90,'91, or '92... Survivor Series was those first 4 years... and SNME really picks up around '86 and was the shyt up to 1990.

far as NWA/WCW... i'd say check out Great American Bash '88 & '89, Superbrawl II (1992), some of the old Clash of the Champions especially from '89... there's one from June '92 that was

I'm more of a WCW head so I would recommend the 92-94 WCW ppvs and Clash of the Champions, mainly 92 for the Dangerous Alliance storyline.

Heyman, Arn, Austin, Rude, Medusa, Beautiful Bobby, and Zbyszko. Marching like bad asses

You've gotta figure out what you like in your characters/storylines honestly. I think you'd dig the war games/clash of champions on the network.


I like reality based storytelling because I was raised on southern wrestling NWA/WCW so going back and watching Mid South, World Class, Memphis etc from as far back as even the 70's is still fun to me because I can see where certain wrestlers were influenced or see angles/promos that could work today.

On the real, if you couldn't get into WM6 it's going to be rough getting through that particular era especially the 80s. The matches in general were sluggish, the movesets were limited, and it was all based on storytelling compared to wrestling nowadays, where it's spot fest central.

As I stated previously, the 92-94 WCW ppvs and COTC events would be a good recommend because during that time, WCW was going through a transitional stage beyond the NWA era. The matches felt more intense and the storylines were straight to the point. Plus 93 had the godtier Vader push which led up to an amazing match with Sting and a great comeback match with Ric Flair. If you can sit through the slow build and just look beyond the graininess of the matches, you will be addicted to the greatest promotion of all time...dubba cee dubba.

It's not necessarily the style. I prefer that style of storytelling versus spotfests. It's more so me not knowing most of the characters/them not having theme songs. It's strange haha

Like someone else said watch Saturday Nights Main Event and follow the timeline the next SNME and the Raw or ppv after it which ever comes first

To me, Mania III is a classic through and throughout. I think it's the 1st time Vince got everything tight, from the production value to the sequencing. The matches aren't spotfests or workrate classics, but everything just fits. And you can tell by how invested the fans are in damn near everything. Even a declining JYD vs a near-retirement Harley Race had them into it for the whole 3 minutes. Piper's "final" match proves he was God-level over in '87. Savage/Steamboat... well... Jake/Honky Tonk, you can feel how over Jake was, and also how much heat HTM had and why he was legit one of the best heels at the time. Hogan/Andre was nothing for the star system, but the atmosphere was epic. Also, there was some character development, a good introduction for a new star, all that... I love this show, it's the show that made me start watching wrestling.
