If an athlete signs with a sneaker company is he allowed to wear other sneakers on his "own" time when he's not performing in an athletic event?

Can D. Rose wear a pair of Barkley's or Foams to the mall?

Can LeBron rock some shell toe Adidas to the club?

Can Durant wear some canvas Chucks?

And if not, do the restrictions only apply if you have a signature shoe?

Mario Chalmers has a deal with Spalding... That can't be his life right?

:sadcam:

Was talking to someone the other day that works with RG3 and says he wears Adidas everything..Down to the socks, draws and wife beaters.. They even make his suits and neck ties.. Was wondering how common this is...

As long as they dont endorse the Product or get into another deal with a rival company or wear it on the field on gameday, they can wear whatever they want on their free time, an endorsement deal is not a "You have to wear our products everyday deal". Some nikkaz just dont wanna burn a bridge by publicly wearing Reebok while in an endorsement deal with Nike so they stay away from that. Its like Wearing another teams Cap, its not Prohibited but its not a good look.

There probably are no restrictions with off the court but these dudes trying to build and establish a brand and most of the people buying their shoes wear them off the court. He is harming his brand if Lebron or Kobe are caught walking the streets in Adidas or Reeboks. No one in MJ's circle wears anything but Jordan including the kids, their friends, nobody

Derrick Rose can not wear Js or nikes. He woukd be a dumbazz.

Iverson never was seen in Js aftef college. I'm sure its something in their contracts that would prevent them from wearing a competitor. Unless thar competitor supplies tge league and tgen they have no choice.

Im talking top guys. they guys who arent top guys sign deals just for games.

if its anything like it is with us,then at all times when youre on that field or anywhere that cameras might catch you, then you have to wear that brand. whether it be water bottles to arm bands, socks, etc that brand is the only thing you can wear when you in the public eye. now as far as around the house or going to the movies and low key stuff then yea wear what you want but if you get caught on camera it needs to be the brand and it can't be covered up in any shape or matter.

Came across this:

NFL RESTRICTIONS ON ENDORSEMENTS

The NFL restricts the kinds of endorsements players and coaches can undertake.

Before pursuing or agreeing to an endorsement opportunity, the player and/or his agent should check some of the following rules or restrictions first.

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo signed a five-year, $10 million endorsement with Starter. (ICON Sports)

Alcohol/tobacco products.

NFL prohibits players, coaches and other employees from appearing in commercials for or endorsing alcoholic beverages or tobacco products.

Banned substances.

Players can’t endorse any companies that produce any products that are on the NFL’s Prohibited Substance list.

Notice that the rule says that the player can’t endorse a company that produces “anything banned”.

So even if you’re endorsing a product that’s not banned, if the company makes anything that is, you can’t endorse their company, or any of their products.

Medical/pharmaceutical companies.

When it comes to endorsing medications and pharmaceuticals, players can only endorse stuff from approved companies that make stuff like allergy medication, hair growth, dermatological products, or cholesterol reduction.

Restrictions on Athletic Wear

The National Football League recently signed a contract with Nike, which requires that all NFL players wear Nike shoes during games.

If if you have your own endorsement deal with a competitor of Nike, all logos and symbols that identify that company have to be covered up when you’re on the field, including practice fields.

You also have to cover them up in press conferences.
:ohhh:

THREE KINDS OF ENDORSEMENT CONTRACTS

There are three categories that endorsements normally fall under: hard goods, headgear and clothing, and non-marking sponsorships.

Let’s talk about these real quick.

Hard Goods

These kinds of deals for football players are often for protective wear, like the four-year deal Darren McFadden signed with Nike back in 2008.

This was a “head-to-toe” deal, meaning that everything McFadden wore other than his NFL uniform (which were made by Reebok at the time) were to be made by Nike.

A lot of companies view Headgear and Clothing deals as the most valuable kind of endorsement, because their logos often show up on the athlete.

But as I said earlier, NFL players often find themselves unable to wear the company’s clothing (especially in games) due to the restrictions the NFL puts on showing the logos of competitors.

Non-Marking Sponsorships

These are deals where the athlete doesn’t have to wear anything on them representing the company.

When you consider these types of deals, you have to make sure you don’t violate any conflicts of interest with sponsors of the NFL, just like with Headgear and Clothing deals.

In these kinds of deals, the company leverages the athletes image, likeness, or have them appear in advertisements, appearances, speaking engagements, and even autograph signings.

An example of a non-marking deal would be Peyton Manning’s endorsement for MasterCard.

You're a college athlete? They can wear whatever they want off field in their private life, right?

these endorsements are millions of dollars to said athlete, and I think it would be a huge mistake and a PR nightmare to risk wearing anything other than who endorses you in public. I'm sure the athletes know this, and their agents make sure they abide by this to the best of their ability..

The dude Guy Fieri who host those Food Network shows was approached by TMZ about TGIFridays menu and he was like

"I don't eat that sh1t" :scusthov:

He was drunk and forgot he was endorsed by them.... I'm sure that happens a lot with off brand products that rich people cake off but would never use themselves...

To answer you straight up. NO they can not wear anything else, ever.

Imagine Jordan going to the store in reeboks. The media would kill him. Reebok would turn around and use it for promotion like "look what he really wears" and Nike would have a PR nightmare.

So in contracts it tells you what you can and can't wear. Say you sign with Nike. They'll tell you, you can wear products we don't sell. Or maybe new era hats. Suits. Dress shoes. Certain watches and shyt.

But more than likely, they'll tell you, it better be Nike. Like shirts, hats, socks, shoes. But then again, you signing 30 mil deal with Nike, they also give you all that shyt first and free. I remember in MJ's book he said he would only wear a pair of J's in 2 games before he didn't like the feel and then he'd just get overnighted some more

Now your friends and fam, they didn't sign any contract so they can wear whatever

shyt I remember when making the bond films, they told pierce bronson he couldn't wear a tuxedo in another movie for like 3 years. They can make you do anything in a contract. As long as you sign your name
