What makes my (your) life valuable? Billions of human beings have lived and died without any noticeable impact on this planet.
I really appreciated this part of your post.
It may sound morbid, but this sentiment is honestly one that gives me peace in my own life. Realizing that, in the grand scheme of things, we really aren't as important as we think we are, gives me comfort. Viewing the universe and its Creator as a neutral force helps me realize my individual life is as valuable (or worthless) to the Creator as ALL other life.
Ponder how other forms of life around us are able to live harmoniously within their ecosystems, but we as humans don't ascribe value to the lives of all the random ones we encounter. Think about all the ants you step on when you walk outside, the bugs we kill in our homes, the roadkill on the street, the trees we cut down...
All these entities were alive at some point, and as humans, we either viewed them as something to serve or vex us as humans...but like you said, there are countless numbers of them and they live and die under the same sun as we.
I think if you take a perspective on life where we (humans) are the jewel, it can make you feel this sense of hopelessness we sometimes do. For the record, I think that is a Eurocentric perspective on nature and life that is very damaging to our psyche and may breed frustrations like the ones you may have.
If you begin to view life, though, as this opportunity for spiritual cultivation (I'm not talking about religion), life and all its situations in yours start to look waaaay different. You start to realize most of us humans are missing the point of what life really is and how we can use our experiences in it.
If you are so inclined, go online and grab a PDF copy of a book called "The Stellar Man" by John Baines. It's not a feel-good read but it can perhaps be a catalyst for you in changing your life moving forward.
Godspeed.
Eta-disregard the underlined text...have no idea how to turn it off.
