Fact: Russell Westbrook is better than John Stockton ever was - Page 3 - Message Board Basketball Forum - InsideHoops

I'm reading this thread up there and it's dudes saying Westbrook is better than Stockton and some saying the opposite. Now Stockton is my favorite player of all time and to me, Westbrook is primarily a better scorer and rebounder, though rebounding isn't really a necessity for a pg. Stockton is a better facilitator, passer, shooter, defender, with a higher IQ in general. However, few people would say that Stockton is better than Westbrook. So, how do you choose who you think is a better player? Do you value 'skill' or 'results' more? I mean, take Olajuwon, who was about as talented a player as has been seen. Compare him to Shaq, who wasn't nearly as skilled across the board, yet many people have Shaq higher all time though Hakeem could do more. It seems that someone having one really good trick is enough to overcome guys who are more multifaceted. Same thing with someone like Curry, who you could also compare to John Stockton and most would say Curry is better. Discuss.

gary payton always gives stockton a ton of props, and i respect his opinion, but personally i think the system helped his numbers a lot. he played with the same coach his whole career. deron williams looked like a top 5 player in that system, when he left it he fell off hard.
