The "rockstars" in college, the guys/girls with 3.75+gpa's and activity/club involvement, get the internship's their Junior years and stay on with the same company and get offers when they walk with GOOD companies, because thats how GOOD companies scout talent.

Shell, Chevron, Google, Dell, KPMG, Deloitte, Viacom, etc, all have "Student Programs" where Junior/Senior year students are brought on as interns for a "Program", serve their time, and get an offer with the company upon graduation. Those same companies won't even look at a resume without inside internship experience or unless you're already an experienced professional looking to come on board as a Senior Associate.

Those "student programs" are reserved for the cream of the crop though, so if you're average, you'll have to hunt harder for a generic internship with a generic company.

Usually, you have to stand out by bein involved in extracurriculars, showcasing leadership, and doing well in school.

However, if you don't have all of those, your not out of the ball game. That's if you can find a way to tell a story (about things that happened to you (school, work, life related) and how that mindset will carry over into your work. Everyone likes a good story, make sure yours is memorable. Also, when you talk with people, how you say something is more important than what you say. You have to embody what it is you are doing. That is the IT factor; and that will put you above the majority of the candidates, because that IT factor cannot be learned in the classroom. You have to live through it.

At Morehouse, recruiters came to the school to get people. The professors knew people that they could bring to the school to recruit for jobs. I heard similar things happen at Georgia Tech and other schools. I went straight to grad school though

nope dont have any skills

Do you have good grades?

Im a sophomore and I am applying for internships now. Even those junior/senior level programs the homie was talking about require experience these days.

There is an enormous set of opportunities for people in IT to get internships, try banks, the government, any fortune 500.
