I'm pretty sure I have ADHD (not going to the damn doctor tho), and it is just impossible for me to stay focused on any bookwork I'm trying to do.
For example, I have a side project I'm working on that'll enable me to quit my job and be on my own financially, but the problem is ,I can never stay engaged in the bookwork!
On my off days, I've tried going to bed at a reasonable time to not wake up drowsy, caffeine pills + L -theinine, I even put on headphones with no music for the sole intent on not getting distracted by outside noise.
NONE OF THAT SHYT WORKS. I'm good for maybe a hour after that, it's a wrap. I'm ready to tap out.
How do you guys go about locking in and getting shyt done? What's your routine? Any substances?

Look up yin yoga on youtube and start doing that a few times per week.

Really helps with focus by getting rid of the physical elements of stress and teaching you how to remain in the moment by paying attention to your breathing.

I have battled with ADHD for a long time and vyvanse + this yin yoga regimen has my productivity higher than ever.

1. Gather All the materials you'll need. Hopefully its offline. It's not the end of the world if not.
2.Then go to a public place that's reasonably quiet, like a library in a nice neighborhood or coffee shop. Somewhere quiet, but public enough that you won't feel too comfortable to browse thecoli or other unproductive sites.
3. Listen to some peaceful music like jazz, classical or white noise.(get some good over the ear headphones)
4.There's nothing wrong with taking breaks. The best thing to do is plan out what you're trying to do, then break them up into 30-45 minute segments with a 5-15 minute intersession in between. Time yourself so that you stay on pace.
5.Literally make a list then mark things as you go....
6.Invest in a wifi hotspot. shyt is klutch if you run into a place with crappy internet speeds. If you go to a library don't be scared to check out a private room as well.

Here's some peaceful music that helps me get work done:

Meditation works wonders.

Also, I'd recommend scheduling time to get away from your distractions.

With book work you don't particularly need the internet. Find a quiet place. Put the phone away (leave it) and start getting work done.

When you need a break, take it.

Also setting goals and meeting them over the course of a project will save you a lot of stress compared to trying to do it all in one sitting or at the last minute. Sometimes you realize you need to scrap your approach and start over. It's easier to do when you have the time.

Did doing this repeatedly improve how long you could go without the intersession? Like did those 30-45 min segments become a 1hr-hr and a half?

Turn,off your phone
If I turn off my phone I'd just get distracted by something else, it's focusing on and being engaged with the actual project that's my problem. I'mma try the advice of the above posters and go to a public place to minimize the amount of things that can deter me at home

what do you mean? The intersession is included. Breaks are good because they allow you to come back fresh. But if you pick up momentum on a task and feel like you do more with fatigue setting in then go for it......

Cut down on distractions. I have the same problem. Don't try studying with music or your TV on. In fact, a lot of people will go to the library and sit to get work done. No way to get distracted with TV, food, or roommates (back in the day even your telephone).
