I have a cousin who went in when he was 17 and was just released after doing 8 years. He is 25 but has the maturity level of a 17 year old. He missed out on learning certain life skills and thinks the world is centered around him. Right now he is staying with his sister who already has a few kids of her own. I feel bad for her because he hasnt even been out a week and he's already causing issues. He gets mad when u cant drive him to places. Hangs out with his friends coming in late at night and early morning.
I am going to sit down and talk with him soon to set him straight. But I really want the best for him and want him to understand gratitude. If it werent for his sister he would be in a group home.

Any suggestions??

He might have to experience that group home life. Some people won’t understand, nor appreciate someone trying to help them until they lose everything their damn selves. If he wants to be helped, then great. If he doesn’t, and he keeps causing issues for people who choose to help him he might have to drown on his own :hubie: I’m speaking from experience, some people get in their own way and you have to let them.

As someone who got locked up at the same age, he should’ve already smartened up at this point :manny:

I don’t know what you can teach him that he shouldn’t already have learned at this point. There’s no better place on this earth that’ll teach you that you ain’t shyt and the world doesn’t owe you shyt...

Some cats hit the ground running and never go back and some of these goofy nikkas don’t get it and won’t get it...

And the average person may or may not be a goofy, so your point...? I just posted from my perspective and from what I’ve seen from similar situations

Wtf lesson is op going to teach or tell him to make him clean up his act that a 8 years stretch didn’t...? Some nikkas touch down and hit the ground running, some be on the same goofy shyt they were into beforehand. Which ones you think have the highest recidivism rate?

what he needs to do is make the most of this situation, this poor hand.

employment opportunities are slim to none, he needs to invest in himself or volunteer. adult classes too so he can channel some of that new energy.

his good on discipline and routine since his just come out the kennel but dont let him over indulge in waiting and recovering.

them plans for a week turn into months of idle years.

you and him need to do a joint venture on a project, so you got each others backs if one starts to slip. its good competition and more importantly something legit, durable and noble.

with friends like you, he'll be alright. :salute:

Prison doesn't stop time. You can mature in prison, I did a long bid, several years and I used that time to better myself. You have all the time in the world to contemplate your past choices and decide what you want for the future. You have the choice to link up with other level-headed individuals in there who want to do better.

He had 8 years to do that, whether he wants to change is all on him at this point.

You’re probably gonna leave to let him go back to prison, at least one more time, before he gets his act together.
