My humble opinion? I think the guy’s death, given the circumstances, would have made him a martyr. His cause would have been championed by either politicians with their eyes on the big seat or the president himself looking for a win.

What it boils down to is way more heat and Sosa, Tony & whomever else ultimately being detained in time

You're probably right. Add the fact that his wife and kids were in the car and presumably would've been blown up too and it would have been an international outrage. But even if there was no blow back from it, I think Tony was so erratic by that time he would've eventually self destructed anyway.

Yea keep in mind my theory was based on just him being killed. Had they have done it after he got in the car with his family the blowback & subsequent government/military response would have been immense
