I would say with age it might end up being in the top 15 or top 20 greatest rap albums of all time.

WTF did I just read, are y'all really putting GKMC over Illmatic, Ready to Die and Reasonable Doubt
:snoop:

GKMC is better than the Black Album (not a classic), the Blueprint, College Dropout and maybe better than Stillmatic.

Niqqas still saying it ain't classic. :pachaha:

Some people can't accept something as classic unless they love it. It's pretty clear the way this album has been embraced it will go down as a classic. Whether you love it or not

I was on the phone and typing at like 3am so it ain't come out all the way right but I was basically saying that all the albums that his peers have brought out has never been compared 2 classic albums, Good Kid Maad City should be getting compared to the albums of newer artist but its not because its in another class than those albums. Like I've never seen wale's albums or drake's album even mentioned in the same thread as an illmatic, all eyes on me or any other classic. Y'all be comparing Good Kid Maad City to albums of not only great artist but the albums that actually made us perceive them as great and I think even if u think its not better than any of these albums, the thought that u can even compare them let's you know it's in there class of greatness.

Well spoken! :salute:

Well since Illmatic is probably the GOAT rap album then yeah it is better than GKMC, but why is it odd to say it is better than Reasonable Doubt or Ready to Die? Dismissing it like that is pure brainwashing. The whole "older is better" mentality. Musically GKMC is on par or superior to both, only problem is it hasn't had 2 decades to build a "mystique" around it

Which is why I constantly refer to it as a classic. When something is widely accepted as great by both the masses and critics, at least to me, it does supersede my personal feelings on the subject when I'm speaking broadly about that particular thing's resonance and value to the genre. So I've conceded the point a minute ago that the album deserves to be designated a classic, even though I personally consider it just a quality album.

To answer the OPs question, I don't think that it's better than any of the albums you listed. I do think it's the best album released from the "new school" era rappers (and I think he's the best rapper of the new era dudes), but personally, I don't rate it as significantly better than a number of recently released projects from LIG to The Gifted (people are going to scoff at those comparisons, but it's the way I see it).

GKMC will be seen as a classic one day, not that hard to see why. It's adored by general rap fans, critics and is commercially successful. And every big artist will tell you that it made everybody step his game up, Like Guru (the man behind Hov) said, it captured a moment in time

yep I think it's a classic but a bottom line classic, not a game changer like illmatic, reason to die etc.
A lil bit behind F&L

It's better than:

It was written
The blueprint
The black album
College dropout

only 2 or 3 nikkas are hating on this album in a 4 pages-thread, wtf are you talking about lol
(still the 3 same blindy haters who won't change what the world already knows :D )

Pls Ready to Die has GOAT level production, it's a more diverse album with all types of tracks (party tracks, gangsta tracks, deep tracks), classic songs like Juicy, Big is an iller lyricist than Kendrick as well. Ready to Die is undoubtedly better IMO. Ready to Die has proved to be a timeless joint and it's impact on hip hop out weights Kendrick.

Reasonable Doubt Jay is also better than Kendrick, what song on GKMC is touching DP, Regrets, Can I Live?

Heads will always be upset when you compare a more recent album to older albums that are universally hailed as classics. As someone mentioned earlier, it's the "older is better" mentality and it exists outside of music as well. Some people, for some reason, find it hard to believe that a newcomer like Kendrick could drop an album that will one day be mentioned with Illmatic, Ready to Die, etc.

The fact is, GKMC has all the elements that make a classic album.
